Lessons of Love

I'd like to share with you a few brief lessons I have learned from my first year of marriage. Keep in mind, I'm only twenty. My experiences are microscopic when compared to those of someone who has been around longer. Also, remember that me and my husband are 100% imperfect!

The first thing I learned from marriage was… I cannot rely on my husband if I haven't first relied on Christ. Aaron and I had the unique experience of spending the first three months of our marriage living in travel trailer at a Christian camp in the Black Hills. Let me tell you. Starting your marriage in a cramped camper makes getting used to living with each other happen really fast! It was incredibly hard as a recently independent collage girl to learn to share my life honestly with my husband. When something with my job didn't go according to plan, I often wanted to bottle it up. Aaron, however, had other plans. He helped me realize my struggles are his struggles, and our struggles are God's struggles. I am only able to have complete faith in my husband, because I have complete faith in my Savior.

The second thing I learned from marriage was... if something was going wrong, we needed to be there for each other. We needed to show up for our new marriage in ways that were very different from when we dated. When we became frustrated with each other, we could not hang up a phone and each go our separate ways to calm down. We had to lay it all out on the table, come to a conclusion, and move on together. The most valuable lesson we learned was to fight like Christ. Stay with me, I'll explain. In the Bible, when someone disagreed with Jesus, did Jesus yell? Did Jesus belittle others? No! So, learning to calmly work through our differences was wonderful. We were finally able to have conversations that would have been impossible before.

The third thing I learned from marriage was…it is SO important to encourage and support each other! We have had to make some tough decisions this year. I know that if Aaron hadn't been right beside me making those decisions, we wouldn't have been able to move forward!

I know I am not any kind of marriage expert! Hopefully this is a good start to many great years to come!

Let Me Introduce Myself

Hi.

My name's Breanna.

I've always wanted to try blogging!

Let me introduce myself.

I am from a small hobby farm in eastern SD where spending Saturdays in the summer involved cleaning out horse pens, searching for new little kittens, and pretending our water tank was a luxurious pool.

I am from a family that loves the Lord and taught me to love Him also.

I am from three different school districts full of many friends who I have not kept in touch with.

I am from the barn down the road where I learned to muck out a stalls, throw hay bales, conquer my biggest fears, and make lifelong friends.

I am from the humbling experience of watching my first best friend, my first horse, pass away because of my own failure.

I am from a father who might sometimes wish I was a son.
I am from an embarrassing digestive disorder that caused me to lose confidence in myself my senior year of high school.

I am from a family that camps ALL THE TIME and I love them dearly for it.

I am from two little brothers who may or may not look up to me, but I have always wanted to set an example for them.

I am from a cousin I grew up with and have learned so many of life's lessons with.

I am from a camp in the Black Hills that shaped my faith and has challenged me to share my faith with others even when I'm afraid. A camp that introduced me to my career and introduced me to my dearest friends.

I am from a secret so life altering when I tell others, they cry.

I am from Life Light Music Festival where I meet a boy who changed my entire life.

I am from a new high school that gave me a second chance at friends, joy, and love.

I am from a morning at school where I opened my locker to find a teddy bear with a note that read, "I'm sorry your teddy bear's leg broke, would you like to use mine?"

I am from a youth group that healed my heart and gave me the opportunity to sing again along side one of my soul sisters.

I am from an awkward room full of engineering majors putting together a tv stand that resulted in me becoming best friends with my college roommate.

I am from a date my first week of college where my boyfriend became my fiancé.

I am from a dorm lobby full of football players that made me feel so safe after I fell out of a tree and got a concussion.

I am from a night out with new friends that ended so very sadly when we found out our close friend had taken his life the floor beneath us.

I am from many nights couch hoping trying to be there for the ones I love most and also dealing with my own loss.

I am from a church in my college town that made me feel cared for and loved the moment I first walked through the door.

I am from many nights wedding planning, studying for tests, and finishing art projects while chugging instant coffee.

I am from a frightening morning where I had to drop everything and be there for my best friend when life sent her a huge curveball.

I am from many phone calls about my grandfathers health that caused me to hit my knees and pray with all my heart.

I am from a sunny May afternoon where I walked down a red carpeted isle to my husband and had the most amazing time of my life.

I am from an incredible opportunity to spend my first summer married working at my childhood camp with my new husband.

I am from an eventful move in to our first apartment at college that involved a four horse trailer and a mountain of boxes.

I am from a sports injury from high school that still prevents me from losing those dreadful freshman fifteen.

I am from the hard decision to stand alongside my husband as he decided to take time off his passion to support us.

I am from a painful loss that changed my heart and all my plans.

I am from God's never ceasing grace.

I am Breanna.
